preview: rise – blood hunter (2007)

Currently in limited release is yet another vampire movie. Lucy Liu (Emmy nominee for “Ally McBeal” 1997) plays “victim, vampire, assassin” Sadie Blake in Rise: Blood Hunter (2007). Surprisingly there isn’t much information available on this film. We’re told it’s from the producing team that gave us The Grudge (2004). And from Sebastian Gutierrez who is the writer of Gothika (2003). But before you get too excited, he also wrote the screenplay for Snakes on a Plane (2006). Adding to its positives, the cast also includes Robert Forster (classic veteran actor and Oscar nominee for Jackie Brown 1997), Michael Chiklis (Golden Globe and Emmy winner for “The Shield” 2002), Holt McCallany (Fight Club 1999), Carla Gugino (Sin City 2005) and Mako (Oscar nominee for The Sand Pebbles 1966) in his last film appearance. Lucy seems to be sexier than ever here, along with her young and hip costars. Judging from the trailer I imagine Sony Pictures was aiming for the 20-something audience. But just the same it doesn’t look too bad. Here’s the official website.
