preview: sicko (2007)

By vrtualme | June 24, 2007

Due for release June 29th is Sicko (2007). When I first read the name I thought for sure it was a horror flick, but no, it’s actually a new documentary about healthcare policies in America from Oscar winning director Michael Moore (Bowling for Columbine 2002). As a disabled person I’m starting to get really excited about this movie. I’m living on social security from the government because I’m ill, but I can’t get the proper care or medications needed to heal me. Don’t you think it would benefit them to give me the resources needed to get me back to work? Anyway, that’s my little problem with the system. After taking on major criticisms for attacking Bush in his last film, Fahrenheit 9/11 (2004), people are asking “has he gone soft?” But it looks like he’s approached the subject with the same in your face vigor as his previous films. He says he’s just touched on something everyone can relate to in one way or another. That Americans have forgotten that the constitution starts with “we the people” and have turned into a nation of every man for himself causing healthcare in our country to be listed at 37th in the world. This is amazing considering we’re the wealthiest nation. Quoted from a user on imdb “Please, cast aside your prejudices and watch this film with an open mind. I personally do not like Michael Moore whatsoever, but this film is mind blowing.” And this seems to be the common thought from critics and viewers alike. I’m planning on seeing this. And even my mother, who is a staunch Michael Moore hater, is considering it. Here is the official website with lots of interesting information; including an option to rate your insurance provider. And the trailer…
