preview: i am legend (2007)

Vampire movies seem to be the big thing this year, but you won’t hear me complaining, I love them. This time around director Francis Lawrence (Constantine 2005) gives us his version with I Am Legend (2007) starring Will Smith (The Pursuit of Happyness 2006) due for release December 14th. The trailer reminds me of Independence Day (1996) with smith saving the world. But this time it’s against blood suckers instead of aliens. With a tagline “The last man on earth is not alone” you can imagine there isn’t much of a supporting cast here. The screenplay was adapted by Akiva Goldsman who’s had good success converting books to the big screen in the past with films like The Da Vinci Code (2006), I, Robot (2004) and A Beautiful Mind (2001). And the book itself was written by Richard Matheson (”A Stir of Echoes” and “What Dreams May Come“). As for vampire movies this year this one looks to be the blockbuster hit of them all.
