preview: broken english (2007)
By vrtualme | June 19, 2007
Due for a limited release this Friday is a quirky little film called Broken English (2007). Writer/director Zoe R. Cassavetes (daughter of actor/director John Cassavetes - A Woman Under the Influence 1974) gives us the story of Nora Wilder (Parker Posey - Blade: Trinity 2004), a single thirty-something woman frustrated with her life. Playing her overbearing mother is zoe’s real life mother Gena Rowlands (The Skeleton Key 2005 & The Notebook 2004), a joy to watch in any movie. Rounding out the cast are Drea de Matteo (“The Sopranos” 1999-2006) as her best friend, Melvil Poupaud (Divorce, Le 2003) as the French man she follows to Paris; and a host of yummy deadbeat dates such as Justin Theroux (Miami Vice 2006), Josh Hamilton (Diggers 2006) and Tim Guinee (“The Lost Room” 2006). The Cassavetes pedigree alone should guarantee a great film; and the critics on the festival circuit seem to be confirming it. Here’s the official website and the trailer…
