review: the rookie (2002)

Ok, I’m a sucker for true stories about inspirational sports figures; and the rookie is one that stands out for me. Jimmy Morris (played by Dennis Quaid) had his dreams of playing pro baseball crushed when he got hurt, but 15 years later got another chance. It’s about believing in something, and following your heart.
The rookie also stars Rachel Griffiths (Brothers & Sisters and Six Feet Under), Brian Cox (Running with Scissors and Troy) and a very young and adorable Angus T. Jones (Two and a Half Men). This is a family film; great for the kids.
