big birthday kisses to benicio del toro

Academy award winner benicio del toro was born on February 19th 1967, making him an even 40 years old today. Though he’d been working steadily sense 1987 his break-out role didn’t come until 1995, playing the mumbling fenster in the usual suspects. From there his career seemed to go up and down. The high points being roles in such films as snatch (2000), traffic (2000, for which he earned an Oscar) and 21 grams (2003). A career low point maybe being his performance in fear and loathing in Las Vegas (1998). A part he said almost ended his career because people couldn’t distinguish between the character and his real personality. “I think people thought, ‘He got fat. He got weird. His mumbling increased tenfold.’ I was trying to do an interpretation of a masterpiece of a book, and that’s what the character was - an animal!” Del toro is an actor who’s presence shines through in any performance; even that of duke the dog-faced boy in big top pee-wee (1988). happy birthday beno.
