i once made mia farrow laugh
By vrtualme | February 9, 2007
Going to book signings was a treat I indulged in when living in California. It was an opportunity to meet celebrities and such, and even bring home an autograph, in an environment where that was expected rather than frowned upon. Because anyone who’s grown up in Los Angeles knows you never approach stars on the street. Even so there are still rules; book signing etiquette you could say. Mainly, the author is there to promote whatever book they are selling at the time. That’s the book you have them sign. I get that. But sometimes I like to bring something extra; and in the case of mia farrow I brought a first year print of rosemary’s baby by ira levin.
While in line waiting to meet her I was promptly told by security “no no, she won’t sign it.” But when have I ever let something like that stop me? When I got to the front of the line I slowly walked up to her with a timid little smile on my face. This for some reason worried her, and she began to frown. Then I, still slowly, reached into my bag and laid in front of her the book. At first she didn’t know what to make of it, but than a look of recognition filled her face. At that point she began to giggle, and that lead to even louder laughter, everyone was turning to look. Eventually she calmed, telling me that no one had ever asked her to sign that book before.
Now, thanks to her, I’ve another diamond in my collection. As far as I know I’ve the only copy of rosemary’s baby signed by mia farrow. Happy birthday to a very sweet lady.
